The Beginning
October 3, 2023
In 2012, I landed in Uganda for the first time. Wide-eyed and barely 18, I hadn't seen or experienced the world yet. I didn't know very much about poverty or Uganda in general. I spent two weeks with an NGO that had many projects throughout Kampala in slums, rural villages as well as schools, health clinics and sewing projects. I fell in love but knew that a life after college would not allow or be on track with a life as a missionary. I was headed to university, physical therapy school and headed for a life that was well-planned and fairly predictable. I returned to Uganda for a short two week mission trip and my heart was once again pulled to Uganda. Instead of applying for physical therapy school, I found myself applying for a 7 month long trip to Uganda.
After quitting my job, fundraising and diving head long into long term missions I found myself heart broken and leaving Uganda only two months into my time. The organization I was with could no longer take volunteers and I had to go home. I cried in the arms of friends when I return to Uganda, this time alone. After a short six weeks in the states my plane touched down in Uganda and I began the long painful process towards what is now Walk Along Ministries.
